When I first was told I had to read this series I avoided it. When I think of Stephen King I think of “It“, “Cujo“, “The Stand” and a heap of other horror stories (not normally my thing), but once I started the Dark Tower Series, I couldn’t stop! It was fantastic!
The idea of parallel worlds is not a new one, but the vivid way Stephen King developes this world is really engrossing. Imagine a cross between a lone samurai, a cowboy, a knight, an unwilling hero and a leader and you would have a basic idea of the main character of this book.
Nothing is perfect, and in that frame of mind, my biggest issue with this series is that Audible lost its way and changed the narrator a couple of times. It is a bt jarring, but after the first hour or so with each book, you’ll happily fall back into your stride. Totally worth listening to, but be prepared to spend a few hours…
